The App
What is Lotus Lantern?
Lotus Lantern is the Bluetooth controller app that powers your NightShift LED kit. Once connected, it gives you full control over color, brightness, speed, and lighting modes — all from your phone. No IR remote, no pointing at a dashboard. Just open the app, tap, and your lights respond instantly.
It is free to download with no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Everything is unlocked from the moment you install it.
Setup
Connect in 4 Steps

Plug in your NightShift controller
Connect the USB cable to your car's USB port. The controller will power on and the LED strips will light up briefly — this confirms it is ready to pair.

Download the Lotus Lantern app
Search "Lotus Lantern" in the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and install it. It is free with no sign-up required.

Enable Bluetooth and open the app
Make sure Bluetooth is turned on in your phone settings. Open Lotus Lantern and tap the Bluetooth icon at the top of the screen. The app will scan for your controller automatically.

Select your device and start
Tap the device that appears in the list — usually named "BT" or "LED Controller". Once connected, the app gives you full control. Pick a color, set a mode, and you are live.

Color Selection
Choose from the full color wheel or tap any of the 8 preset modes. Your selection saves automatically for next time.

Brightness Control
Slide to adjust brightness from barely-there ambient glow to full intensity. Set it exactly where you want it.

Music Sync Mode
Tap the music icon to activate sync mode. The built-in mic on the controller — not the app — picks up your audio and reacts in real time. No Bluetooth audio stream needed.

Speed & Animation
For modes like Breathing and Strobe, use the speed slider to control how fast the effect runs — from slow and relaxed to high energy.

Timer / Auto Off
Set a timer to auto-shutoff the lights after a set period. Useful if you want the lights on during a short park without draining USB power.

Save Presets
Save your favourite color and brightness combinations as presets. Switch between your day vibe and night vibe in one tap.
Troubleshooting
App Not Connecting?
The controller does not appear in the app
Make sure the USB cable is fully plugged in and your car's ignition is on. The controller only powers on when the USB port is active. Try turning the car to accessory mode if the port doesn't work with the engine off.
Bluetooth is on but the app shows nothing
Close the app fully and reopen it. If your phone was previously paired to the controller via the native Bluetooth settings, go to Settings → Bluetooth → forget the device, then reconnect through the app only.
App connects but lights don't respond
Check that all 4 strip connectors are fully clicked into the controller box. A loose connection means some or all strips won't respond even when the app is paired. Unplug and re-seat each connector.
Connection drops while driving
Keep your phone within 5 metres of the controller. Bluetooth range drops through metal and thick materials. Try placing your phone in the cupholder or centre console rather than the back seat.
Music sync is not reacting
The sync uses the physical microphone on the controller, not your phone's mic. Make sure you are in Music Sync mode in the app and that your music is audible near the controller — turn up the volume slightly if the reaction feels slow.

Is the Lotus Lantern app free?
Yes — completely free to download on iOS and Android. No account required, no subscription, no in-app purchases. Everything is unlocked from the start.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. Lotus Lantern is available on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 11 and above). Search "Lotus Lantern" and download the app with the lantern icon.
Does music sync need the app running?
Once you have activated music sync mode in the app, you can close the app and the sync continues on its own. The controller's built-in mic handles everything — no phone connection needed to keep the beat going.
Can multiple phones connect to the same controller?
One phone can be actively connected at a time. To switch, the first phone disconnects and the second connects through the app. Works well for sharing control between passengers.
What Bluetooth version does it use?
The NightShift controller uses Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE). Any iPhone 4S or newer and any Android phone running Android 4.3 or above will connect without issues.
